Lisa AllenI am a native of Denver, and a graduate of Denver Public Schools (I won’t tell you which year…). My husband Jeff and I have three children who have all attended Slavens. My daughter Cora is an eighth grader here at Slavens, my daughter Cecelia is a junior at Thomas Jefferson High School, and my son Henry is a freshman at Colorado State University.
I have twelve years of experience teaching in the classroom in fourth, fifth, and sixth grade. I began my career at Slavens in 2006 teaching fourth grade. During that time I received a Master’s degree in Special Education and in 2008 moved to the position of special education teacher. During my time teaching in special education I became increasingly interested in math and how to make it accessible to students who find it difficult (as I did in school). I have a heart for students who struggle academically and a strong desire to see them overcome their challenges. My philosophy is that all children can learn math at the highest levels in an atmosphere in which it is safe to take risks and make mistakes. It is a priority for me to build in each child the confidence that comes with learning math and to decrease their stress in learning it. I am thrilled to be taking on a new challenge this year at Slavens teaching math intervention and look forward to all the growth we will see in your children! |
